Karma: The Dark world
I ended up downloading Karma because it seemed interesting. It definitely was! Set in first-person mode, the main character wakes up in a hospital with no recollection of anything. Who he is, where he is or what is happening. After wrenching the three large hoses attached to his arm out, with a black liquid squirting everywhere, he starts to explore his locked room.
If you’re already intrigued, good. So was I. This was one of the few games where players actually configured the settings in game in terms of reconditioning. Checking for visual, audio and spatial setting in the form of small tests is actually quite clever. I had already configured my game, as FPS often makes me unwell but that didn’t mean I didn’t appreciate them adding it in with the story.
After configuration, I was met with a room filled with bodies in bathtubs filled with soil with plastic covering them. It was almost like they were growing humans in bathtub planters. I explored this room for a while, repeating “wtf” in my mind a bit as I did so. I came across one of the bodies outside of the bathtub planter. It was sitting on the floor shuddering, alive. I tried to interact with it, but nothing happened. I’m not going to go into the story anymore, because it quickly got weirder from here on out. I would have mostly likely spent a lot of time with this game as I was very impressed with the graphics, the story and just the sense of mystery, except my PC isn’t the newest of computers. This meant the sound cut out every 6 seconds. I encountered this on Pacific drive as well and it might seem like a small thing, but it absolutely ruins the immersion. So, karma is on the back burner until I can finally scrounge the funds for a new PC. I feel like it’s the least I can do for it.
