Horror Double feature!

These two demos were quite short so I’ve bundled them together but both are worth checking out!

Ghost Frequency

As part of PIT, the Paranormal Investigation Team, checking out haunted houses is par for the course. This one is a bit different though. Two of the team entered the house before Mark and Emily to investigate and they haven’t been heard from since. Concerned about their teammate’s welfare, they’ve entered the house to find out just want is happening inside.
Players will take control of Mark as he uses real life ghost hunting equipment to investigate the house. Use the EMF detector to figure out the best places to put the static cameras in an attempt to capture paranormal activity. Use the Infared thermal camera to track down spectres invisible to the naked eye. Listen to unheard voices with the EVP recorder to help unravel the mystery of the house. Can Mark and Emily survive the night and find their team members?
Ghost Frequency was only a five-minute demo, as the camera battery runs out during that time. It swaps to a linear corridor with just a lighter to light the way. “Oh boy” I thought “here comes the jump scare.” I had quite enjoyed the demo up to this point. It’s not like I didn’t enjoy this part, but the previous part was ripped away from me abruptly. As I continued, there were creepy kid drawings and a skeleton. “It’s a coming” I detached myself from the game and continued monotonously. Sure enough, mister smiley face made his appearance and ended the demo. I enjoyed the actual ghost hunting part, less so the end. Hopefully the game has more of the former and less of the latter.

Dreamless

John is a diligent student who has a passion for video blogging. He gets an offer from his friend Will to check out the house of a lady that the entire town seemingly hated, with the ire spreading to her grandkids as well as herself. At the same time, the town has experienced mysterious disappearances every 25 years. From August 1-7, which the town calls “Death week”, teenagers disappear with no clues left behind. Unable to solve the mysterious disappearances, authorities gave up and just told residents to stock up and hole up for the entirety of Death Week. Still the disappearances occur. Eventually, the idea that the town has a serial killer or a curse fades.
John isn’t aware that he is checking out this house during “Death week”. How is the house and the disappearances connected? Are they connected? Or has the entire town ostracized an innocent old lady?
The dreamless demo has players explore a few rooms of the house with John narrating, as well as explaining his current goals. It’s kind of strange that with the popularity of exploring abandoned places on YouTube that no one really made a game like this before? Anyway, with John being a stupid teen, he does a stupid teen thing while there, one that might have just placed him in the middle of everything.
