Little-Known Galaxy

I downloaded Little-Known Galaxy on a whim during the space Next Fest. I often have issues with motion sickness on the PC so I tend to stay away from the space games if I think they’ll make me feel unwell. I’m actually very glad I gave this one a chance.

A Little Like Stardew Valley in Space

The game starts off explaining humans have discovered space travel and instead of trying to murder everything for once, we decided to befriend the other races in the universe. Nice.
The player is the captain of a ship that has been orbiting the grey planet for ages. Several Captains have been and gone with not much changing beyond the ship slowly falling into disrepair and the crew’s morale dropping by the day. A mysterious relic on the surface of the grey planet has intrigued the crew for ages, but no headway has been made recently.
The players responsibilities as the captain include repairing and upgrading the ship, collecting resources, exploring the grey planet, manufacturing tools and machines and befriend the crew. It seems like a lot when it’s listed and there are only so many hours in a day, but as there are no real penalties for moving time forward to the next day it becomes manageable.
From what I can tell, Little-Known Galaxy has an overarching narrative to help tie all the exploration, crafting and social elements together. It feels like Stardew Valley in some respects, but it’s different enough to stand out from the games out there.
The farming game market has become a crowded place of late. We’ve had magical farming games, farming games in space and farming games with adventure added, but to me, Little known Galaxy isn’t a farming game. Farming is only one element of the game, while I believe crafting, base building and exploration are more important aspects.
I definitely found myself enjoying the game enough that I ended up wishlisting the game and will probably go back to the demo if it’s still available.
