As Final Fantasy XIV began to reach the 10-year mark, it became imperative to make the earlier dungeons accessible for newcomers. The developers had already begun to lay the groundwork when they included the Duty Support function in the Shadowbringers and Endwalker expansions. It was slowly rolled out to previous expansions, but it showed issues with how dungeons were done. This led to a modernisation of older dungeons, which were hated due to their complexity or simply because players could agro every enemy and then run to the boss. Yes, this is a thing that used to happen and still does, but in smaller segments due to the rework to prevent it.
This was another article that I wasn’t able to grab from Kotaku AU before it changed, so it’s the word version in PDF format, I’m afraid.
